When I set out to make “The Doers of Coming Deeds”, I never realized what a profound effect it would have on my life. With the never-ending enthusiasm of my incredible cast and the unwavering support of my magnificent crew, we were able to shoot our film in 2 ½ days… albeit long days… but 2 ½ nonetheless. This experience brought me back to why it is I make film… for the passion, for that sense of camaraderie that unifies a group of people with one purpose… the purpose of creating something that will hopefully touch all those who see it.
“Doers” is a film about choices. It’s about doing what is right regardless of the consequence. It’s a tribute to all those in the past who have been brave enough to make a stand against tyranny. I only hope that it will serve as an inspiration for others in the future. The title comes from a lyric in the Hitler Youth Anthem “ Vorwarts, Vorwarts ” and reads, “Youth, Youth the doers of coming deeds.” It always struck me as such an ominous line, knowing that the purveyors of hate were influencing the minds of so many young people… not that different from what is going on around the world today. As time went by however, I began to see hope in that verse. It is through the young people of today that the world can change for the better, if only they can break from the hatred of the past and make the right choices.
I will forever be grateful to my wonderful cast for bringing my vision to life, to my crew for working so diligently, to my Executive Producer, Tino Struckmann, who would just say, “Don’t worry about it”, every time another expense came up pushing us even further over budget and to all of those who stepped forward to help in whatever way they could.
